Celebrate Love!

My favorite holiday has always been Valentines Day (Heart Day).  Growing up we celebrated all the traditional holidays that most Americans celebrate, the big ones anyway, but the best one was always Heart Day.  In our family Heart Day was a big deal. We exchanged presents like it was Christmas.  We would, for that day at least,  let bygones be bygones and sometimes letting things go went beyond the holiday and lasted the rest of the year.  I loved giving Valentines to all my friends. Each Heart Day we would shop and plan and write something from the heart to all the special people in our lives. Oh and the candy… just wow! Who doesn’t love hearts, flowers, and CHOCOLATE with caramel?  We often handmade our Valentines, and we would pull out all the stops with ribbon, and lace, and hearts of course.  Some cards were the size of notebook paper and even laminated.   Below is one such card that I made.

It was a day we celebrated LOVE!

Over the years Heart Day has remained my hands down favorite holiday… but it has lost a little bit of it’s luster as I have aged and grown wiser.  I have always secretly wished that every day was Heart Day.  The feelings of gratefulness, forgiveness, just rolling with things for the sake of love-ness that I associated with that day… I wanted in my life every day.  Could it be that simple?  Of course it can!  We cannot control what others think or do, but we can choose at anytime to improve our own perspective and actions.  I am not sure when exactly that I began to put into practice what has always been in my heart regarding Heart Day.  I just know that I now do, and have for sometime.  Heart Day will always be my favorite holiday because it celebrates love, but I will choose to celebrate love EVERYDAY for the rest of my life… not just one day a year.
