A knowing wind rustles the chimes on a cool summer evening…
I love wind chimes.
Through the cracked window the chime orchestration and nature’s breath lull me towards a long awaited slumber.
But there’s something strange in the air tonight…I see you…in my mind’s eye…dark wavy hair, olive skin, dark eyes, just outside the window, waiting, watching, wanting…what I’m not sure.
I dismiss my thoughts as imaginings, as we so often do, and focus instead on the soft breeze and sleep.
But you would not be dismissed, and you made your intentions clear when you grabbed my wrist and pinned me down with a force I’ve not felt before or since.
I screamed loud enough to wake the dead, then you released me, and you were gone.
My family came to comfort me, lights on, closet and window checked… nothing to see here. It must have been a dream they said, but I didn’t imagine your hand around my wrist and you would not be my last ghostly encounter.
