There seems to be a trend on a singing competition show that we watch. On more than a few occasions when someone is close to or is being eliminated they say,  some with defiance, “I DID THIS FOR GOD”!  or “I’M DOING THIS FOR GOD”

What does that mean, exactly? Do they mean to say they are not strong enough to stand on their own?  Do they mean to say that they are more deserving than the other contestants who may be doing it for themselves or their families, or whatever? Is it a last cry to their fellow believers to vote for them?  And what does god have to do with the competition anyway? Somehow I don’t think this type of prideful showcasing would be encouraged from a biblical standpoint.   I don’t know if they are being coached not to mention god? It would make sense to me that they might be coached not to talk about personal beliefs because it’s not really an appropriate forum for that, and that’s not what they’re there for. What’s that they say “The three things to never discuss at a dinner party… politics, religion, and sex, but spewing on national tv is somehow not off limits?   I haven’t heard muslims up there saying they are doing this for allah nor any other faith do I recall attempting to use that stage as their personal pulpit,  just christians.  I can understand if a person is religious it being mentioned as part of their back story, but I feel some attempt to use their moment in the spotlight to shine the spotlight,  if even for a moment,  on that which they believe, and it’s inappropriate in my opinion.

I for one, find it offensive.  I don’t really care what they believe… I care about whether or not they can sing.  IT’S A SINGING COMPETITION, not church! If I wanted to hear about god I would go to church!  I happen to be Atheist but I don’t really talk about it unless someone asks or it specifically comes up in conversation.  Religion is like a penis. It’s fine to have one and it’s fine to be proud of it, but please don’t whip it out in public and start waving it around.  END rant.
